The Los Angeles Rams likely figured the first quarterback they had to worry about retiring was Matthew Stafford.
But now, it sounds like a retirement might be coming soon for Jimmy Garoppolo.
Garoppolo is technically a free agent, but he'd likely spend the 2026 as the Rams' backup QB behind Stafford if he keeps playing.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport wrote on X on Monday that Garoppolo is "considering retirement."
He certainly doesn't need to keep playing for financial reasons. Jimmy G has made more than $156 million in his career.

Garoppolo is 34 years old (turning 35 in November). He entered the NFL as a second-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2014 NFL Draft from Eastern Illinois.
The Pats won a Super Bowl at the end of Garoppolo's rookie season, with Tom Brady leading the way. They won again a couple seasons later with Garoppolo again not appearing in the game.
So he's got two rings, and he has also made 64 NFL starts. Jimmy G is 43-21 in those starts.
Garoppolo has completed 67.4% of his passes in the NFL for 15,828 yards. He has 96 touchdown passes and 52 interceptions.
He didn't start a game for the Rams in 2025 after one start in 2024.
He has also played for the Raiders and the 49ers.
The Rams were already considered a possibility to draft a QB at some point to start building up an heir to Stafford. That might be even more necessary if this news comes to pass.
