Raiders predicted to hire 2-time NFL offensive coordinator as head coach

The Las Vegas Raiders' search for a head coach continues after the team struck out on its No. 1 target, former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who was hired by the Chicago Bears in a move that came sooner than expected.

It was believed that Johnson would take in-person interviews before landing on his decision, but clearly he didn't need them. It was a tough blow for Raiders fans, who thought Johnson had a good chance to land in Las Vegas after reports suggested as much.

As the Raiders turn the page, it remains to be seen which direction they'll go in. Will they opt for a more experienced, steady hand like former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll? Or will they try and go after another offensive-minded coach?

As we await the Raiders' next move, For The Win's Cory Woodroof is predicting the Raiders will hire Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

"After the Raiders reportedly struck out on Johnson, we predict they immediately pivot and go after Brady, another one of the game's rising offensive minds from his time with the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers as an offensive coordinator," Woodroof wrote. "He'd be a very good consolation prize."

Brady is on his second stint as an offensive coordinator in the NFL. Before joining the Bills, where he has served as a quarterbacks coach, also, Brady was the offensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers from 2020-21.

In his first season at the helm of the Bills' offense, Brady's unit ranked 10th in total yards per game, ninth in passing yards, nine in rushing yards and second in points. The Bills' impressive showing has only added to Brady's status as one of the brightest young minds in the sport.

The Raiders have interviewed several candidates thus far, but Brady has not been one of them. That could change, though, after Las Vegas landed on a general manager in John Spytek, who could suggest more candidates.

Brady's ability as a play-caller and his experience as a quarterbacks coach should be very intriguing for a Raiders team that may draft a young signal-caller in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The problem with Brady is that the Raiders may have to wait for him. If the Bills win the AFC Championship Game, Las Vegas can interview him during the bye week before the Super Bowl but wouldn't be able to hire him until after the Big Game. Of course, if Buffalo is eliminated this week, Brady is free to do whatever.
