The Boston Red Sox are looking for answers at first base after Triston Casas went down with a knee injury. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow thinks Rafael Devers could be the answer they are looking for, according to MassLive's Christopher Smith.
Devers does not agree. He has refused to change positions for the second time this year, and feels Breslow is being inconsiderate to him, noting the difficulty in changing positions.
"It was the GM that I spoke with," said Devers, according to Smith. "I’m not sure what he has with me. He played ball and I would like to think he knows that changing positions like that isn’t easy."
Breslow spent 12 seasons in the big leagues as a reliever. He is now tasked with finding a solution at first base, but Devers does not understand his thought process in doing so.
"Here in the clubhouse, thankfully, the relationship that I have with my teammates is great," Devers said, according to Smith. "I don’t understand some of the decisions that the GM makes. Next thing you know someone in the outfield gets hurt and they want me to play in the outfield. I think I know the kind of player I am. And yeah, that’s just where I stand."

Devers would never be asked to play in the outfield, but he is drawing a line. He has already been asked to stop playing third base, and is still adjusting to being a full-time designated hitter. He started off the season 0-for-19, and his numbers are below his career averages. The three-time All-Star has already made a big adjustment for the team, and thinks it is unwise to do so again.
"They had the conversation with me," Devers said, according to Smith. "I don’t think for me personally it’s the best decision after they asked me to play a different position and I only have two months of playing this position. To all of a sudden have me try to play another position ... from my end, it doesn’t seem like a good decision."
He went on to talk about how he is upset the team did not stay true to their word about him only being the designated hitter. He urged Breslow to look on the trade block to find his next first baseman.
