Mavericks considered one of the best landing spots for potential future superstar

The Dallas Mavericks are hoping their decision to trade Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis eventually pays off, but they might need to surround Davis and Kyrie Irving with another big-time player to bring home that elusive championship.

The Mavs could have a golden opportunity to do just that in this upcoming NBA Draft, but they have just a 1.8% chance of securing the No. 1 overall pick. But if they beat those odds, they could have a chance at selecting Duke Blue Devils forward Cooper Flagg.

SB Nation's Ricky O'Donnell believes that Flagg could be an incredible fit in Dallas.

"Harrison was right about some of Doncic’s shortcomings, but he didn’t come close to recouping fair value in the deal," O'Donnell wrote. "Winning the rights to Flagg would immediately make up for it and breathe new life into an incredibly pissed off fanbase. The Mavs would have their front court of the future locked down with Flagg and Dereck Lively II, but they would still have to add so much more young talent on the perimeter."

Flagg would immediately bring a versatile wing defender that could bolster an already strong interior defensive unit, and since Irving is projected to miss at least the early portion of next season, Flagg could have an immediate chance of getting real reps on the offensive side of the floor.

Drafting Flagg would give Dallas endless options of building their roster for the future, as the Maine native can blend into almost any situation while providing versatile defense, scoring, and playmaking.
