The New York Jets have made two monster trades today, including two defensive cornerstones.
Sauce Gardner is headed to the Indianapolis Colts, and Quinnen Williams is headed to the Dallas Cowboys.
Gardner's trade came almost out of nowhere with no chatter leading up to the deadline, but Williams, on the other hand, was something that may have been in the works for a while.
Quinnen Williams' relationship with Jets was heading in the wrong direction
According to SNY's NFL insider Connor Hughes, Williams had been unhappy with the Jets for some time and wanted out.
"Quinnen Williams' relationship with the Jets has been deteriorating, and this goes all the way back to when they made the decision to move on from Aaron Rodgers. That's when things started to change," reported Hughes.
"When Aaron Glenn was then very critical of Quinnen Williams in a 1-on-1 meeting and critical of him publicly to us, that is when things truly began to spiral. He let the Jets know he had zero plans to extend...he had stressed to the Jets that he wanted to rework his deal. The Jets rebuffed that."
It seems that the writing was on the wall for a divorce between the Jets and their most decorated defensive player.
While parting ways with their No. 3 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft hurts, the second-round pick in 2026 and first-round pick in 2027 certainly help the future outlook of the Jets.
