PSG will receive a €2 million [$2.25m] bonus after AS Roma were forced to start Leandro Paredes in Sunday’s important Serie A clash against AC Milan, which marked his 80th appearance for the club. The appearance was a trigger for a contractual clause originally agreed upon during his transfer.
Paredes, signed from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 for an initial €2.5 million [$2.8m] fee, which was reported by Fabrizio Romano, had been stuck on 79 matches since mid-April.
The Argentine midfielder was benched by the Italian side for five consecutive games, with sources indicating the move was financially motivated to avoid the €2 million payout to PSG.
But pressure broke the plan. After a crushing 2-1 defeat to Atalanta on May 12, which endangered Roma’s Champions League hopes, head coach Daniele De Rossi, who replaced Jose Mourinho last year, was left with little choice.
With i giallorossi locked in an intense top-four race with Juventus, De Rossi brought Paredes back into the starting XI against Milan, despite the costly clause, and the gamble paid off — on the pitch.

Argentinian proved decisive in a tense match at the Stadio Olimpico. With the score level, he found a moment of magic after his curling free kick struck Mike Maignan’s post in the 58th minute.
