Proposed Giants signing lands ex-Bears 19-TD receiving threat for Russell Wilson

The New York Giants have made plenty of moves this offseason, but there's one area they might still look to address before the regular season arrives.

With Russell Wilson expected to begin the campaign as the starter, the Giants need to surround him with as many weapons as possible in the passing game.

At the tight end position, the Giants didn't make many impactful moves. They added Thomas Fidone II in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but he's not a lock to make the roster.

Thus, Pro Football Focus' Mason Cameron suggested the Giants should take a look at free-agent tight end Gerald Everett, who was released by the Chicago Bears in February.

"The Giants currently house a pair of young tight ends in Daniel Bellinger and Theo Johnson, but neither has managed to produce a PFF receiving grade above 58.0. While there is no shortage of quality pass catchers in New York, the offense could use a big-bodied threat in the receiving game," Cameron wrote. "Gerald Everett could fit the bill for the Giants. Although Everett struggled to produce in Chicago last season, he is familiar with Russell Wilson, having played together in 2023. That season, Everett posted a 115.0 passer rating when targeted, the highest of his career."

The Giants have high hopes for second-year tight end Theo Johnson, who was on his way to a strong second half before a foot injury ended his rookie campaign prematurely.

With that said, there isn't much depth behind him. Daniel Bellinger and Chris Manhertz are still on the depth chart, but neither player has proven to be impactful as a receiver.

Everett wouldn't be an immediate solution to the Giants' depth concerns at tight end, but he would provide a veteran presence over the middle without much cost.
