Shubman Gill-led Team India are all set for their next Test assignment at home. They will host South Africa for a two-match series. The first game will begin on Friday, November 14, in Kolkata. Guwahati will play host to the second Test beginning Saturday, November 22.
Shubman Gill had a solid start to his career as Test captain with a thrilling 2-2 series draw in England. He managed to win his first Test series, also his first at home as captain, when the West Indies recently toured India. The hosts won the series 2-0.
Meanwhile, South Africa are coming on the back of a two-match series against Pakistan in Pakistan. The series was drawn 1-1 with the Proteas winning the final Test.
As India host the current World Test Championship (WTC) champions, it will be an interesting and crucial series for both sides.
That said, let us take a look at three batters who could score the most runs in this Test series.
#3 Tony de Zorzi
South Africa's top-order star Tony de Zorzi showed impressive form in their recent series against Pakistan. He was the leading run-scorer in the series with 175 runs from two games at an average of 58.33 with a hundred and a half-century.
The right-hander has done well in sub-continent conditions as well. He has scored 423 runs from four matches in Asia (two against Bangladesh) at an average of 70.50 with two hundreds and a fifty.
Overall, he has 816 runs in 15 Tests at an average of 31.38 with two hundreds and three half-centuries. Given his recent form, with his ability to play spin well, and his record in the subcontinent, South Africa will expect Tony de Zorzi to be among the runs against India.
#2 Shubman Gill
All eyes will once again inevitably be on Indian skipper Shubman Gill. He batted well in the home series against the West Indies. The right-hander scored 192 runs in three innings at an average of 96 with a hundred and a half-century.
Since becoming Test captain, Shubman Gill has had a phenomenal record with the bat. As skipper, he has piled on 946 runs in just seven matches at an average of 78.83 with five hundreds.
Moreover, he has a stellar record in home Tests. He has 1369 runs from 19 matches at an average of 45.63 with five hundreds and six half-centuries. Skipper Shubman Gill will aim to lead from the front once again and carry his impressive form.
#1 Yashasvi Jaiswal
Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken giant strides in his short Test career already. He was the leading run-getter in the West Indies series as well. The left-hander scored 219 runs from three innings at an average of 73 with a massive hundred.
Jaiswal has been consistent for India in Tests, be it playing at home or overseas. He has been impressive in Australia, England and will now aim to carry his solid form against South Africa.
At home, Jaiswal has scored 1310 runs in just 12 Tests at an average of 62.38 with three hundreds and seven half-centuries. In eight Tests in 2025, he has scored 662 runs at an average of 44.13 with three tons and two fifties. He will be eager to continue piling on the runs.
