To get started for The One That Takes, fast travel to the Nouveau Café in the southeast section of Central Plaza. Once you arrive, look for Griselle and Grisham, who’ll fill you in on what’s happening.

During their conversation, you’ll learn that Team Flare once attempted to capture Yveltal but failed. Their experiments left behind traces of energy that might help you locate it. Griselle suggests that your next stop should be Quasartico Inc. in the Magenta District, which is situated in the upper-left section of the map.

Preparing for the hunt at Quasartico Inc.

Inside Quasartico Inc., you’ll meet Vinnie, who gives you more details about Yveltal’s immense destructive power and the kind of preparation needed to face it. He’ll then grant you access to a new feature in the lab, which is an upgraded Battle Simulator designed to test your strength before taking on the Legendary.

This simulation pits you against three Rogue Mega Pokemon, each at Level 70, so come prepared with a balanced, high-level team. The goal here is to prove your worth by winning all three battles:

• Rogue Mega Victreebel
• Rogue Mega Hawlucha
• Rogue Mega Tyranitar

Once you defeat all three Megas in the simulator, you’ll automatically trigger the next stage of the The One That Takes mission, Yveltal’s appearance.

Where to catch Yveltal in Pokemon Legends Z-A

After completing the simulation, Yveltal will manifest on the rooftop of Galerie de la Lune in the Rogue District, which lies north of Central Plaza. There’s no puzzle or long cutscene leading up to it, and once you reach the rooftop, you’ll find Yveltal waiting.

Unlike normal encounters, you can’t defeat Yveltal, as it instantly restores its HP. The only way to finish the fight is to catch it. During the battle, Yveltal will occasionally prepare to unleash a massive attack, but you can cancel it by throwing a Pokeball at the right time before the move executes.

Best strategy to weaken Yveltal

Yveltal is a Dark/Flying-type, which means it’s weak to Fairy, Electric, Rock, and Ice-type moves. However, Gardevoir is the recommended Pokemon as it resists Yveltal’s Dark attacks and can hit hard with Fairy-type moves like Moonblast.

Focus on wearing Yveltal down gradually instead of rushing the battle. When its HP drops below roughly 30%, start using Ultra Balls to maximize your catch chances. If it breaks free, keep trying, as there’s no penalty for retrying the encounter as many times as needed.
