Pittsburgh Steelers trade rumor opens door for addition nobody is expecting

7 hours ago 2

We've seen a lot of the same rumors and speculation about who the Pittsburgh Steelers could add at wide receiver ahead of the trade deadline.

If you've been following closely, you know the usual suspects: the New Orleans Saints' Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, the Miami Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle, the Tennessee Titans' Calvin Ridley and the Las Vegas Raiders' Jakobi Meyers.

But what if the Steelers threw a curveball and acquired a wide receiver nobody is expecting them to? According to a new rumor, that might happen.

Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan is hearing that the Steelers are "looking into a wide receiver that isn't listed in any of the trade deadline stories out there."

Whoever this might be, let's just hope he's as good or better than the guys we listed and won't be the next Mike Williams. The Steelers need to make a splash to adequately address the position.

One name that comes to mind that hasn't been talked about at all when it comes to possible options for the Steelers in recent weeks is Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Samuel hasn't been mentioned because the Commanders initially weren't expected to be sellers at the deadline, but that went by the wayside on Sunday night after the Commanders fell to 3-6 and lost Jayden Daniels to a significant injury.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Commanders "have been open to trading several players," and it's logical to assume Samuel might be one of them considering he's going to be a free agent in 2026 and may not be in Washington's long-term plans.

The veteran has looked good this season and he's got plenty left in the tank after many pegged him for a demise in 2024.

Granted, Samuel only has 367 yards through eight games, but that would still rank second on the Steelers. Furthermore, he has played three of those games without Jayden Daniels, and he missed one game due to injury.

Is Samuel the most sexy option out there?

No, but the Steelers could do a lot worse and we're confident in saying he won't be the second coming of Mike Williams in Pittsburgh.
