The Pittsburgh Pirates appear to be heading towards the 2026 MLB trade deadline as legitimate buyers as they pursue a postseason berth.
But, looking beyond 2026, the Pirates have some work to do to keep this promising offense together for some time. One of the key moves will be regarding their beloved 21-homer infielder.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report is predicting that this beloved second baseman will sign a three-year, $60 million deal to stick in Pittsburgh as a key part of the resurgent Pirates.
Pirates predicted to sign Brandon Lowe to $60M deal
"Pittsburgh Pirates: Brandon Lowe signs an extension in September," Reuter predicts. "... Something in the neighborhood of a three-year, $60 million deal might be a good landing spot for both team and player."
The Pirates will need to make a decision about Lowe soon, as he's currently only under club control through the 2026 season.
Lowe will become a free agent after the season comes to a close, and with how good he's played, it would be a mistake to let him walk this offseason.
Reuter is predicting the Pirates sign Lowe to a three-year, $60 million contract extension. That deal would come in at $20 million per year, and both the AAV and total figure wouldn't be outrageous for the Pirates to agree to.

Among all second basemen, that $20 million AAV would put him tied with Jorge Polanco with the New York Mets for sixth-most in baseball.
But, considering the players ahead of him like Xander Bogaerts, Jose Altuve, Marcus Semien, Nico Hoerner, and Gleyber Torres, this $20M AAV deal wouldn't be so bad. The $60 million total would be eighth in MLB, which is worth it for the Pirates.
This season, Lowe has a .246 batting average and an .803 OPS with an 117 OPS+, 3.0 bWAR, 21 homers, 88 hits, 59 runs scored, 21 doubles, one triple, and 64 RBIs.
The 32-year-old infielder has been incredible and a key part of this elite offense. Pittsburgh should not let him go, and this $60 million contract prediction would be worth it for the Pirates, as Lowe is just that important to the franchise.
