Pirates Konnor Griffin has a memorable birthday in win over Brewers

Since getting called up, Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin has slowly been finding his footing. Through his first 20 games, Griffin is hitting .214 with an OPS of .587, 11 RBI and 22 total bases. 

Despite Griffin not hitting well at the plate, he has been solid defensively at shortstop — zero defensive runs saved in 169.1 innings. However, Griffin’s bat woke up to help lead the Pirates to a 6-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, which included his first home run. 

Konnor Griffin’s first career home run helps the Pittsburgh Pirates surpass the Milwaukee Brewers 

The Pirates' win over the Brewers saw Griffin hit his first career home run, a solo home run in the third inning to center field. The now 20-year-old (April 24) became the fourth player in Major League Baseball history to hit his first career home run on his 20th birthday, according to MLB’s Sarah Langs.

Griffin said to SportsNet Pittsburgh after the win about his home run, “Glad to get that one out of the way and now we can get rolling.”

Once Griffin gets more adjusted to the speed of the game his bat will produce. Griffin had three hits in the victory, which is the first three-hit game of his career. This could be what Griffin needs to get on a hot streak and become more of a contributor in the Pirates' lineup.
