The Pittsburgh Pirates are eliminated from postseason contention.
Still, Pittsburgh's offense was one of the best in the Majors for most of the season.
However, the Pirates would be wise to make a few more adjustments to their pitching staff for 2027.
The NL Central club made a notable roster move on Tuesday, designating a former All-Star reliever for assignment.
According to a team announcement, the Pirates DFA'd right-hander Camil Doval and reinstated veteran reliever Kirby Yates from the injured list.
Doval, who posted a 3.79 ERA with 23 strikeouts and 14 walks in 19 innings with the Pirates, was acquired from the New York Yankees at the trade deadline.
"It would appear that the Pirates weren’t planning to tender him a contract for next year. Even if they were planning to non-tender him in November, it’s a bit strange to cut him from the roster now," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.
"There are several other pitchers in the bullpen who have options and could have been easily sent down for the final days of the season," McDonald added.
Any team that may claim Doval would not be eligible to use him in the postseason.

At his best, the 28-year-old looked like a star closer in the making, saving 39 games with a 2.93 ERA for the San Francisco Giants in 2023.
Doval's struggles with control have limited his effectiveness over the last few years.
Before the trade to the Pirates, the Yankees no longer used him in high-leverage situations.
