Phillies trade prediction lands J.T. Realmuto's replacement with Orioles' 2X all-star

The Philadelphia Phillies have three high-profile free agents that they have to worry about this offseason. Kyle Schwarber and Ranger Suarez are the headliners, but catcher J.T. Realmuto is also set to hit the open market, and the early reports point to the Phillies potentially wanting to move on.

As hot stove season approaches, the Phillies are expected to be a busy team in terms of player transactions, as Dave Dombrowski hasn't shown hesitancy to pull the trigger in the trade market. A recent trade idea has the Phillies replacing Realmuto with Baltimore Orioles' star catcher, Adley Rutschman.

Phillies trade idea lands Orioles' Adley Rutschman in blockbuster deal

In a recent "biggest bombshells of the 2025 offseason" piece by Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter, the Phillies are predicted to swing a blockbuster deal for Adley Rutschman.

Realmuto is entering his age-35 season, and it would make sense that Philadelphia's front office may want to go with someone with a little more youth.

The Orioles may also be willing to move off Rutschman after signing top prospect Samuel Basallo to a contract extension before Adley. Adley is a two-time All-Star, but his offensive production has seen a decline in recent years, which included career lows in almost all major hitting categories this season.

Of course, injuries have also played a part in that, but Adley may also want out of Baltimore after the front office decided to sign Basallo before him.

Baltimore could also be in a retool year, and this trade idea doesn't suggest that Adley and Realmuto get traded for each other, but rather the Orioles receive a couple of top prospects in the Phillies organization in return for Rutschman.
