3 WWE stars who should win the Last Time Is Now Tournament and 3 who shouldn’t

17-time WWE Champion John Cena’s Retirement Tour is coming to an end, and his final opponent has not been revealed yet. Rather, the Franchise Player has announced a 16-man tournament to determine his last opponent, and fans have not stopped talking about the potential winners of the tournament.

The Last Time Is Now tournament is set to kick off next week on RAW, and a lot of action is expected to unfold during the match. Let’s check out a few names that should win the tournament and face John Cena in his final match, and a few that shouldn’t.

#6. Should: Gunther

Gunther stands out as the most deserving winner of the Last Time Is Now Tournament. His reign of dominance as the World Champion a few months ago proved him as one of the biggest names in the industry. The star has not been seen on TV since his loss at SummerSlam and is expected to make his comeback for the tournament.

Gunther vs John Cena is a dream match fans have been waiting for, and him winning the tournament to face the Franchise Player in his last match would make perfect sense.

#5. Shouldn’t: Former Undisputed WWE Champion Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns has already had a number of marquee battles with John Cena, including their high-stakes showdown at SummerSlam 2021. Bringing him into the tournament would make things controversial.

The OTC has not been on WWE TV since his loss to Bronson Reed at Crown Jewel, and needs to focus on his rivalry with The Vision. On the other hand, Cena’s farewell should bring younger talent to the spotlight. Including Reigns in the tournament would make no sense and could end up affecting the excitement fans have for the match.

#4. Should: Dominik Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio winning the Last Time Is Now tournament would be the boldest twist WWE could deliver at this point. The star has evolved into one of the company’s most hated villains, and defying the odds using he tricks from Eddie Guerrero’s books, to face Cena would instantly make him a generational heel.

Dominik vs Cena would undoubtedly be a match worth watching. Considering the position the Intercontinental Champion is in at this point, a match with the Franchise Player would elevate his status in the industry.

#3. Shouldn’t: Brock Lesnar

A Cena vs Lesnar finale might sound epic, but fans have already witnessed their last match. Both men battled each other recently, at Wrestlepalooza, and the match ended in one of the most shocking ways fans could expect.

The dominance that the Beast Incarnate showcased during the match was a surprise to millions around the world, and nobody would want to see them battle once again. Considering this would be Cena’s last match, fans would want the company to capitalize on the opportunity and deliver something more meaningful rather than another showdown with Lesnar.

#2. Should: Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre winning the tournament would be the ultimate redemption story. After years of carrying WWE through the pandemic era, the star has not been given the push that he deserves.

Following his recent loss to Cody Rhodes in the Undisputed WWE Championship match, it would be the perfect opportunity for the company to turn the tables and make McIntyre one of the biggest stars once again by giving him the victory in the tournament.

#1. Shouldn’t: CM Punk

While a John Cena vs CM Punk finale would be another match that fans would love to see, it would not be the right way to end Cena’s career. Following Punk’s World Heavyweight Championship victory, the Best in the World did call out Cena for a potential attempt to become an 18-time champion, but fans don’t expect Cena to go for a title at this point.

Winning the Last Time Is Now tournament would be a big accomplishment in its own, and engaging Cena in the title picture at this point would make no sense. Fans will have to wait and see what WWE has in store for John Cena’s last match.
