The Philadelphia Phillies are hanging around in the NL Wild Card race right now, with the Atlanta Braves looking likely to hold their division lead barring an August and September collapse.
But, for the Phillies, who are still one of the better teams in baseball, especially after their Luis Arraez addition at the MLB trade deadline, their odds for the postseason should be quite high.
ESPN's Bradford Doolittle shared an update on those playoff odds, and while they are a good bit above 50%, they are a bit concerning after they've dropped under 70%.
Phillies playoff odds drop to under 70% after trade deadline
"9. Philadelphia Phillies. Win average: 85.6 (Last: 87.7, seventh). In the playoffs: 65.0% (Last: 72.1%). Champions (1.8% (Last: 2.1%)," Doolittle shared.
These updated odds for the Phillies after the trade deadline are not as good as they were to begin July. The reason why is understandable, as they didn't have a good July at all.
If they had a strong month and made up even more ground in the NL East, then these odds would likely be a bit higher.
But, since they struggled for almost the entire month, there is a real chance now that the Phillies are out of a playoff spot if they have just one bad series.
The Phillies got some help in Arraez, Caleb Kilian, and Brooks Raley at the trade deadline, and while there have been some mixed results, Arraez has been incredible for Philadelphia since his debut.

As long as the Phillies can get better production out of Andrew Painter and Aaron Nola, things should start to look a bit more promising for the Phillies.
Alec Bohm, Brandon Marsh, and Kyle Schwarber, figuring things out at the plate would be a huge help as well, as all three are struggling a lot right now.
This is a good team, ranked No. 9 in MLB according to Doolittle. They have a 65% chance to make the playoffs, which is not bad at all considering their terrible July and awful start to the season.
But, considering the momentum they had heading into July, these updated playoff odds for the Phillies are a little bit concerning.
