Phillies named among 'best fits' for Astros .772 OPS 3B to replace Alec Bohm

The Philadelphia Phillies are coming into the 2026 MLB trade deadline with three big needs: starting pitcher, high-leverage reliever, and a right-handed hitting outfielder.

But that might not be the only position the Phillies look to add. They could, potentially, add a new third baseman to replace Alec Bohm amid his lackluster 2026 season.

ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel named the Phillies among the "best fits" for a Houston Astros third baseman. It's a little bit of an odd fit with the outfield need, but this .772 OPS infielder, Isaac Paredes, would be a big upgrade for this offense.

Phillies linked to trade for Isaac Paredes from Astros

"18. Isaac Paredes, 1B/3B, Houston Astros. Chance of being traded: 40%," Passan and McDaniel write. "Best fits: Guardians, Mariners, Phillies, Pirates, Brewers, Reds."

The Phillies being named as a suitor for Paredes in the trade market is very interesting. Despite the need for a righty-hitting outfielder, the Phillies could turn to Paredes as an offensive upgrade.

Bohm has struggled this season once again, hitting .224 with 11 homers, 46 RBIs, and a .655 OPS. He's drastically improved since the start of the year, but he's still well below where the Phillies need him to be.

Paredes, meanwhile, is hitting 254 with a .722 OPS with 12 homers and 47 RBIs. His overall production has been a lot better than Bohm's, and insert him as the cleanup hitter behind Bryce Harper, and this Phillies lineup looks a lot better.

While Paredes is a third baseman primarily, he could slide over to first base, and Harper could move to the outfield. That's not likely at all, but it's at least something the Phillies could consider if they add Paredes at the trade deadline.

Philadelphia could also trade Bohm to a contender in need of third base help, like the New York Yankees, to clear the way for Paredes without Bohm sitting on the bench or put in an awkward position.

Trading for Paredes would be a good way to upgrade the offense, but his fit with Bohm on the team isn't very clear. This would be a very interesting move for the Phillies, and would likely coincide with a few other changes as well.
