Dallas Stars winger Jason Robertson has been linked to the Pittsburgh Penguins ahead of the upcoming offseason. The Texas team's star has yet to sign a contract extension.
The Athletic's Josh Yohe recently noted that he can see the Penguins making a push to sign Robertson, 26.
"I've written this before, and I'll say it again: If Jason Robertson is made available this summer, I expect Penguins GM/president Kyle Dubas to be first in line," Yohe wrote.
"He wants to take big swings on young talent, and if [Robertson] becomes available, there likely won't be a better or younger player out there within the next year."
Stars GM Jim Nill says re-signing Jason Robertson is 'a priority'
Stars general manager Jim Nill revealed last month that keeping Robertson on the Texas team is a priority for him. Speaking on NHL Network's "NHL First Shift" with EJ Hradek, Nill confirmed this.
"We started discussions with Jason last summer, so we've kept in touch, and in the end, we decided, let's table this," the Stars GM said.
"Let's go have a good year, let's have a good playoff, and we'll make this work. He's a big part of our team. He's one of the leading scorers in the league, and he's really in the prime of his career. He's a big part of our team. So a priority for us is to get him signed this summer and move on," he added.
Robertson still has one more year as a restricted free agent before he can become an unrestricted free agent.
