Sidney Crosby has led the Pittsburgh Penguins to a good start this season. The team has an 8-4-2 record, and they are near the top of the Metropolitan Division. Crosby and Evgeni Malkin continue to lead the offense with experience. Their power play is strong, and their defense has improved this year.
Crosby is 38 years old but still plays at a high level. He has 17 points in 14 games this season. His consistency and leadership have helped the team stay competitive, despite missing the playoffs in the previous three seasons.
Crosby has scored at least one point per game for 20 straight seasons, and he continues to set the standard for performance and effort.
General manager Kyle Dubas spoke to The Athletic about Crosby’s future, who has started the first season of his two-year $17.40 million contract. Dubas said the team’s goal is to keep improving every day.
"Our goal is not so different," Dubas said on Monday, while explaining Crosby's future. "Every day, we’re trying to get better. We’re trying to put ourselves in a position to win every single day."He said he often talks with Crosby and agent Pat Brisson about team plans.
"I communicate that [goal to win] with Sid and with Pat, and I just don’t think we can veer from it if we’re going to deliver for him a team that can contend while he’s still at this level, while he’s still playing. … We’re very fortunate to have a person of that character, capability, of that winning pedigree, all in one."Dubas praised Crosby’s commitment and also mentioned veterans like Malkin, Kris Letang, and Bryan Rust for their effort.
When asked about Crosby’s future, Dubas said he has no plans to move him.
“No, I would never," Dubas said about trading Crosby. "He’s got two years... And I just think that if we continue to take the right steps ... that’s the great solution... Just have to win."Pierre LeBrun's comments on Sidney Crosby
In late October, Pierre LeBrun said Conor McDavid could win MVP at the 2026 Milan Olympics. He compared McDavid to Sidney Crosby and predicted which forward could have a much better impact.
"I'm going to say on the ice. Conor McDavid wins MVP at the Milan Olympics, which I look forward to going over and covering," LeBrun said on TSN overdrive. "Off the ice, Sidney Crosby's impact is already unreal."During Canada’s Olympic camp in Calgary, Sidney Crosby spoke to every player. LeBrun said Crosby has taken his captain duties to another level, and he called Crosby’s preparation and professionalism unmatched.
