The New England Patriots are signing a former Denver Broncos wide receiver ahead of their divisional round matchup with the Houston Texans.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Patriots are signing veteran receiver Trent Sherfield to the practice squad.
"The Patriots signed veteran WR Trent Sherfield Sr. to the practice squad," Pelissero reported.
Sherfield spent 10 games with the Broncos earlier this season and also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals this year.
In his six-year career, Sherfield has started 14 games, tallying 1,034 yards and six touchdowns. Sherfield is a valuable piece on special teams and should also provide New England with nice depth in the receiver room.
Signing Sherfield ahead of a potential AFC championship matchup with Denver is a savvy move from New England. The 29-year-old will help the Patriots with game planning for a potential game with the Broncos in two weeks.
