Patriots sign former 3rd-round pick from Colts to help hold off Bills in AFC East

The New England Patriots lost a brutal one on Sunday, blowing a 21-0 lead to fall to the Buffalo Bills.

The Pats are now just one game ahead of the Bills in the AFC East standings with three games to play.

To try and help their cause, the Patriots are bringing in someone new. On Monday, the Pats signed Chad Muma to their active roster from the Colts' practice squad, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Muma was a third-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022 out of Wyoming.

The 6-foot-3, 239-pound linebacker has played in 55 NFL games.

This season, Muma got onto the field for just five games for the Colts, making five total tackles.

He appeared in 50 games across his first three NFL seasons, all with the Jags. In those 50 games, Muma made 94 tackles and had 1.5 sacks.

This season, Muma has mostly played special teams when the Colts have had him on the gameday roster. He had just 32 defensive snaps in five games, but he paired that with 71 special teams snaps in that span.

The Patriots clearly have a plan for Muma, because they wouldn't have signed him off the Colts' practice squad otherwise. That's a maneuver that can happen only if the acquiring team immediately puts the new player on their active roster, so Muma will get a chance to contribute right away for New England.

The Patriots play in Baltimore on Sunday night in Week 16, a big game and one that Muma will get to take part in.
