New trade rumors have emerged involving Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, and they provide good and bad news to potentially interested teams.
First, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported on Saturday that multiple league sources believe Brown getting traded from the Eagles is "inevitable."
The question remains whether Philadelphia will move the star wideout before June 1.
"The first week of free agency has come and gone without the Eagles trading veteran receiver A.J. Brown. There continues to be a league-wide belief that it will eventually happen," Florio said. "Multiple league sources have characterized it to PFT as inevitable."
"The question is whether the Eagles will do it before or after June 1. Regardless, the thinking is that Brown will indeed be gone before Week 1."
However, after the Eagles brought back tight end Dallas Goedert on a one-year deal on Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter added that there haven't been any new developments on Brown's situation, signaling a potential trade isn't close at this time.
"Even though the Eagles now are bringing back tight end Dallas Goedert, there are no new developments regarding the status of wide receiver AJ Brown," Schefter said.
The Eagles would absorb a $43 million dead cap charge by trading Brown before June 1. If they move Brown after June 1, they would save $7 million and incur just $16 million in dead cap. The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that a trade involving Brown isn't imminent and won't happen until the start of June.
Nevertheless, these latest rumors regarding Brown are mixed news for the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and Denver Broncos.
If Brown gets traded, the Patriots feel like the favorites, but the Chiefs and Broncos could also pull off a blockbuster trade for the Eagles receiver to bolster their pass-catching groups.
Kansas City just added a plethora of draft capital in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams for cornerback Trent McDuffie, so they could have the firepower to acquire Brown to help quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
