The Kansas City Chiefs know that their Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Chargers has a lot on the line, and by a lot, I mean their entire season.
If the Chiefs can win their seventh game of the year, their season will continue into Week 16, but if the Chargers walk into Arrowhead Stadium and walk out with a win, it will officially mark the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era that Kansas City won't be in the postseason.
So, there is no shortage of motivation for a Chiefs team that has lost four of its last five games and has its season teetering on the brink of disaster.
But does that give Mahomes any more motivation to draw from ahead of Week 15?
“I always want to win, so it's not like I have to draw too far, but I mean, when I look at it now, I don't know what the percentages are, but I know they're not high,” Mahomes said. “I think it'd be special if we get into the playoffs and can make a run. So, why not give ourselves a chance to do that? And we have to start by winning football games.”

Mahomes aware of Chiefs situation vs. Chargers
The mental aspect of professional sports is always a fascinating study, and for the Chiefs, having been to the last three Super Bowls, winning two, and having made it to at least the AFC Championship game every year Mahomes has been the starter, what has transpired this season is odd.
What that does to a team mentally is interesting.
Having been the gold standard for excellence over the past five or so years, to now have a season where they are fighting for their playoff lives isn't something the Chiefs have had to do since Mahomes took over.
So how will they react? With Chris Jones, Mahomes, and Travis Kelce as leaders of the locker room, all eyes will be on them in Kansas City's biggest hour of need on Sunday.
They've come through in the clutch before. Can they do it again?
