Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has named club hero Cristiano Ronaldo among the greatest players in the history of the club. The Denmark international is coming to the end of his first year at Old Trafford, having joined from Lecce in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old left-back joined ESPN UK for a set of quickfire questions, providing his choices of the best players using different criteria. When he was asked to name the three GOATs in the history of the Red Devils, he quickly pointed to Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes, and Wayne Rooney as the players in the category.
Patrick Dorgu did not play alongside any of the players he named at Manchester United, with both Rooney and Scholes retired, and Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia. The defender did, however, play against Ronaldo earlier this year on the international stage when Portugal locked horns with Denmark in the UEFA Nations League in March.
Now 38 games into his career at Old Trafford, Dorgu managed to embody the spirit of one of the club's GOATs by scoring his first goal as a Red Devil. Playing as a right winger against Newcastle United on Boxing Day, the Dane struck a fierce volley into the back of the net to earn his depleted side a narrow 1-0 win at home. It was a goal worthy of winning a match, and one that all three of Ronaldo, Scholes, and Rooney would have applauded.
Former Manchester United star sees net worth dwarf Cristiano Ronaldo's: Reports
Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha has reportedly seen his net worth surpass that of ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo after his success in business. The Frenchman played for the Red Devils for four years between 2004 and 2008, winning four major honours.
In a report from the Manchester Evening News, the 47-year-old heads a company, AxisStars, that helps to manage relationships of professional athletes and entertainers with their peers. He co-founded the company with Kate Hamer, and it is now worth a staggering £4.3 billion, putting his net worth at a significantly higher level than Ronaldo's.
Cristiano Ronaldo was celebrated earlier this year for being the first active footballer to earn over $1 billion during their playing career. His fortune is meager when compared to Saha's, who played 124 times for Manchester United and scored 42 goals. Saha retired from professional football in 2013 after playing in Italy with Lazio, having played for Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, and Newcastle United, among others.
