Path out of NFL cellar for Jets revealed

The New York Jets have had a proactive offseason, making several key additions to Aaron Glenn's defense to strengthen the roster's foundation.

But we know that to compete in the NFL, you need an offense that can put up points, and right now, it is Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson for Geno Smith.

Yes, you can add Mason Taylor to that group as well, but more is needed for Smith to make this offense a competent unit.

As such, NFL.com's Nick Shook thinks the Jets have to add another weapon for Geno in the upcoming NFL Draft.

"Garrett Wilson returns to headline a group that could use another addition, which is why the Jets should zero in on a top receiver with one of their first-round selections (Nos. 2 and 16) to give them a skilled trio of Wilson, tight end Mason Taylor and their preferred new wideout," Shook wrote. "If they're going to climb out of the cellar, they'll need firepower in the pass game."

Who could Jets target?

There will be a couple of options at No. 16, as the Jets are almost certain to take a defensive player at No. 2. Carnell Tate likely won't last until No. 16, but others, such as Omar Cooper Jr. and Makai Lemon, could be potential options.

Pairing either one with Wilson would give Geno a nice tandem to work with, while Hall establishes the run game.

For so long, the Jets have been the laughingstock of the NFL, and last year was tough for Glenn, but improvement has to be seen this season, and getting a top weapon from the draft will certainly help that.
