Abyss is now a core League mechanic in Path of Exile 2 Last of the Druids. It means that, unlike patch 0.3, you won’t find it spawning across every map. However, you can force one with new Abyss Precursor Tablets. If an Abyss encounter is present on a map, it will show up as a green circle along with other map objectives.
The core mechanics behind Abyss remain the same. However, within your Atlas passive, there is now a dedicated tree that you can use to modify the drops and monster spawn. This guide will help you set up the best Abyss Atlas tree in Path of Exile 2 for farming items using this League mechanic.
Best Atlas tree progression for Abyss in Path of Exile 2
Find Lightless books to progress the Abyss Atlas tree in Path of Exile 2 (Image via GGG)While there are multiple nodes to choose from, you can only get a total of eight Abyss skill points. Finding all of them isn’t as difficult. Here are all the ways to fully unlock your Abyss Atlas tree:
- Complete an Abyss encounter
- Complete an Abyssal Depths
- Defeat Tasgul, Swallower of Light, or Vandroth, Blackblooded Enslaver
- Defeat Vessel of Kulemak
You get two points for completing each objective. The first two are easy to complete, as you can use an Abyss Precursor Tablet and eventually get Abyssal Depths. Defeating Vessel of Kulemak is also easy, but you’ll need Kulemak’s Invitation, which drops from either the Lightless Void or the Dark Domain. Both encounters feature a boss fight that’ll drop the invitation as a reward.
However, finding Lightless Void or the Dark Domain Path of Exile 2 endgame can be difficult, so it’s better to purchase Kulemak’s Invitation from the Currency Exchange. They are cheap, and fully completing the encounter will reward you with a Lightless Book of Knowledge (IV).
Here is the best Abyss Atlas tree progression setup:
You want to get 'From Out of the Pit' as soon as possible (Image via GGG)Stir the Swarm, as it adds another Abyss to your map that contains the encounter. It improves the chance of getting more loot or an additional side area. This passive will not spawn an Abyss if the map doesn’t contain one. However, you’ll first want to make your way to ‘From Out of the Pit’.
Use the left side passive chain with ‘Sprawling Rupture’, which increases the number of monsters from Abyss, and ‘Unholy Influence’, which increases the number of Abyssal mods on monsters.
Use rare Abyss tablets to improve loot in Path of Exile 2
Rare tables can now have additional modifiers (Image via GGG)One big change Path of Exile 2 made in patch 0.4 was the ability to turn Precursor Tablets into rare ones. This feature is only available after you defeat the Arbiter of Ash, but it can improve the loot from your Abyss monsters and chests significantly.
In addition to that, increasing your item rarity and map rarity will also influence your drops. Getting good rarity equipment can get expensive, so it's better to focus on Waystones and Atlas passives if you’re starting your Abyss farming.
