Pat McAfee album details: What to know about 'The Diary of a Polarizing Figure'

Pat McAfee is a busy man, but he seemed to find time to write, record and produce an entire country album.

The former punter and current media personality is set to release his first album on Friday, August 14, which he explains as a portrait of his life. he albums is called "The Diary of a Polarizing Figure," and McAfee said he's been writing songs for it for much of his life.

McAfee's continued presence in sports media has made him a central figure in many ways, so it's not much of a surprise that he has a lot to say. Instead of using his show, though, he is choosing a different outlet to express his thoughts.

McAfee announced in June that he was releasing an album aimed at expressing his feelings towards being what he described as a "polarizing figure."

"For as long as I can remember, my mere existence has made people hate my guts… literally since elementary school. Teachers, administrators, other parents, you name it.. I didn't understand it as a child but throughout my life I've come to realize that this is just how it's gonna be," he said. 

McAfee added that throughout his life, he wrote songs that he feels comfortable releasing to the public now. 

"I've been writing songs about it all for 20yrs. It's time to let them aht," he said. "There's A LOT of headlines and narratives about me.. if I was to die, I'd like my kids to know exactly who and what their dad is."

McAfee worked with country artist and producer Ernest throughout the making of the album. The lone single is called "Dookie," which is just over 90 seconds long.

McAfee revealed the album cover when he made the album announcement, as it unsurprisingly features him front and center.
