The Warriors star utilized the off day in his bag to watch the football game and blow off some steam before his next match. The Dubs secured a 119-116 win over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday. Curry led the charts for the night as he notched 28 points, collected 10 rebounds and dished out six assists.
The Warriors (14-15) are in a pinch at this point in the season. They are in eighth place in the Western Conference standings, and if the season were to end today, they would have to play in the play-in Tournament.
Steph Curry has been burdened to carry the team in almost every game. He is averaging 28.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game on 47.5% shooting. The Dubs play the Orlando Magic in their next match on Monday.
Warriors coach reveals he looked at Steph Curry as the next Steve Nash
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and Steph Curry have had a player-coach relationship that has lasted for 12 years. The duo first started working together in 2014 when Kerr took over as the Dubs' coach from Mark Jackson.
However, Kerr revealed that he had his eyes on the Warriors star for a long time and had even expected Curry to be the league's next Steve Nash. He made the revelation on Sunday's episode of "The Athletic Show" podcast.
Kerr said that he went to see Steph Curry play when he was a sophomore at Davidson. At that time, the now-Warriors coach was the general manager for the Phoenix Suns. Kerr took former Suns scout Bruce Fraser with him to watch the future Warriors star in college.
"We were mesmerized by his skill and his charisma, just the way he moved, and we kind of looked at each other, and we’re like, maybe he could be the next [Steve] Nash,” he said. “And that’s why we really pushed hard and almost had a trade the day of the draft for him in Phoenix, and it fell through. Thank God it did."However, Curry surpassed Kerr's expectation and Nash's legacy, as the duo dominated the league from Kerr's first season as a coach in the Bay Area and went on to win four championships in eight years.
