Padres' star breaks silence on club's decision to hire Craig Stammen

The San Diego Padres came into the offseason in search of a new manager. Mike Shildt surprisingly retired at the end of the season, leaving the front office to scramble.

After interviewing a few people, the club announced on Thursday that it had decided to go with Craig Stammen as its newest skipper.

Stammen does not have any managerial experience, but has been with the club the past two seasons, working closely with the baseball operations team, player development team, and serving as an assistant coach.

After hearing the news, the fanbase was split. Many were hoping that the club would decide to hire Albert Pujols to be their newest manager, while others are ready to see what Stammen can do.

He recently retired in 2023, so he has a unique perspective heading into his new role.

Joe Musgrove is one of those people who are ready to see what the young manager can do. He spoke his mind on the decision via Marty Caswell.

"I only heard his name in the last day or two get mentioned, but, you know, a little surprised at first. Didn't even know he was considering taking a role like that, but knowing he is in that spot, I couldn't be more excited. He's going to be a great guy for the job."

Musgrove was initially shocked to hear he was in the running, but is glad to see he was the man chosen to lead this club. However, with the number of key players the Padres could lose in free agency, Stammen will certainly have his work cut out for him.
