The San Diego Padres are trying to secure a Wild Card spot in the National League over the next few days, and following their win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night, they're in a great spot to do so.
If they can get a postseason spot locked up, there's reason to believe this Padres team, which has looked very different in the second half after their offense has come alive, could make a deep run.
One MLB executive shared with ESPN's Buster Olney a bold prediction that the Padres would win the 2026 World Series. This exec revealed the one main reason why he believes San Diego can make a run to their first-ever title this season.
MLB exec predicts Padres will win 2026 World Series for one reason
Olney shared that one MLB executive made a bold prediction that the Padres "are going to win the World Series for the first time in their history, with just about everything trending in the right direction."
Their offense is clicking at the right time, the rotation looks a bit better than it did earlier in the year, and most importantly, the bullpen is elite.
Speaking of that bullpen, this anonymous MLB exec highlighted the bullpen as the reason why San Diego is his bold World Series winner.
"Once you get into the postseason with all of the built-in off days, that's going to help their bullpen -- which is the best," this MLB exec told Olney.

Led by Mason Miller, this Padres bullpen has what it takes to shut down opposing offenses late in games. It's not just Miller, either.
Adrian Morejon has been great once again this season, and Jason Adam is now back in the fold as well. Add in Bradgley Rodriguez, Wandy Peralta, Yuki Matsui and a few other depth options, and this Padres bullpen is more than good enough to win a title with.
With the resurgent offense, the Padres biggest question mark is in the rotation. But with Michael King, Nick Pivetta, Casey Mize and Robbie Ray, there's enough talent here to make a deep run this October.
So, while there's a chance the Padres wind up with the third and final NL Wild Card spot, there is reason to believe this Padres team could make a title run for the World Series this year.
