The San Diego Padres are once again looking like a team that will act as buyers at the MLB trade deadline. Fighting with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West title, the Padres need a bit more help.
Offensive upgrades will be something to keep a close eye on, but the Padres will also be eyeing bullpen and starting pitching help. With A.J. Preller in charge, it would not be a surprise if the Padres swung big.
If they go for broke, then trying to acquire Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal could be a fun one. It won't be easy, but Robert Murray of Fansided.com shared a prediction from an MLB executive that should excite Padres fans months ahead of the deadline.
Padres receive exciting Tarik Skubal trade prediction
Murray asked an MLB executive what they thought Skubal could fetch in a trade, and this exec said, "If I had to answer, I'd say one top-100 prospect plus a top-15 and one more throw-in."
It's a huge package for any team to give up, and when asked a follow-up question of whether he would do this trade, this anonymous MLB exec made an exciting comment: "The Padres will."
This MLB executive is predicting that it will cost a lot to acquire Skubal at the trade deadline this year. They are also predicting that Preller and the Padres would be the team to pull off such a blockbuster.

San Diego needs more rotation help, so they would naturally emerge as a possible landing spot for Skubal at the trade deadline.
Most importantly, the Padres have Preller at the helm, and he's someone who's shown a knack for the blockbuster trade, which he showed last year with the Mason Miller acquisition.
Adding Skubal would be another incredibly exciting move for the Padres to make, and this MLB executive believes the Padres might be the team to pull off such a stunning blockbuster.
