3 NHL teams that could sign Penguins' Stuart Skinner in free agency

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ strong 2025-26 season came to an end with their first-round series loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. Now, the Penguins are entering an important off-season.

The Penguins have several pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs) heading into the summer. Goaltender Stuart Skinner is one of the most notable. While he had some solid moments with Pittsburgh, there is a good chance the Penguins will let him go. This is because they have Arturs Silovs and top prospect Sergei Murashov waiting in the wings.

Because of this, let’s look at three teams that could sign Skinner if he hits the market.

Philadelphia Flyers

Could the Flyers look to steal Skinner from the Penguins? The possibility should not be ruled out, as it is no secret that they could use another goalie.

While Dan Vladar has been an excellent addition for the Flyers, Samuel Ersson had some major struggles this season. With this, the Flyers could look to upgrade their backup goalie role, and Skinner stands out as an interesting option for Philadelphia.

Ottawa Senators

One of the Ottawa Senators’ top goals this summer should be to improve their goaltending. They did not get enough from their backup goalies this season, so it would make sense if they pursued Skinner this off-season.

Skinner would form a strong tandem with Ullmark if signed, which would undoubtedly benefit the Senators. They almost missed the playoffs because of their inconsistent goaltending this year, so they could very well kick tires on Skinner this summer.

Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning could be another team to keep an eye on when it comes to Skinner this off-season. The Bolts could use an upgrade over Jonas Johansson for their backup role, and Skinner would provide them with just that.

Skinner would also give the Lightning a good enough backup that could help lower Andrei Vasilevskiy’s workload a bit and keep him fresh when the playoffs come around.
