Packers trade rumor details Green Bay's interest in former Raiders second-round pick

3 hours ago 1

The Green Bay Packers could use more help at the tight end position after Tucker Kraft's injury and they apparently have their eyes on a former Las Vegas Raiders second-round pick.

According to Easton Butler and Alec Courtier of Packer Report, Green Bay has put in a call to the Raiders for tight end Michael Mayer.

A former 2023 second-round pick of the Raiders, Mayer would appear to be expendable after having his role reduced since the arrival of Brock Bowers.

Mayer is a plus pass-catcher and a fantastic blocker, so he could assist the Packers in filling the void left by Kraft's injury in multiple ways, and he still has one more year left on his contract, too.

That said, reports have suggested the Raiders don't plan on trading Mayer and they could even extend him.

"Teams have called on TE Michael Mayer (whom Vegas could actually extend in the offseason) and CB Eric Stokes, and have been told no," Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer wrote.

While it's clear the Raiders value Mayer's blocking, that isn't enough to not trade him if the price is right.

After all, Las Vegas needs as much draft capital as possible with so many holes to fill and a roster to build and keeping a player like Mayer who really only does one  thing for them isn't a wise decision.

Maybe the Raiders will change their mind, but all signs point to Mayer staying in Las Vegas, which means the Packers will have to look elsewhere for help.
