Packers predicted to cut ties with $84 million All-Pro in blockbuster trade

The 2024 season ended on a sour note for the Green Bay Packers, which could foreshadow changes to the roster for 2025.

Cornerback Jaire Alexander has had a rocky couple of years, after excelling early in his Packers career and making two All-Pro teams.

He has played in just 14 games over the past two seasons due to injuries, and was suspended for a game last year for conduct detrimental to the team.

Alexander's four-year, $84 million contract includes a potential out this offseason, which would saddle the Packers with a $19 million dead cap hit. But as long as there's still a market for the star corner's services, wouldn't it make far more sense to trade him instead?

On Wednesday, Yardbarker's NFL staff posted an article including a "bold prediction" that the Packers would find a trade partner for Alexander before the new season begins.

"Per NBC Sports’ Kelly Hallinan, Alexander declined to speak much with the media following Green Bay’s wild-card loss to the Eagles, noting he was unsure if he would return to the team in 2025," the authors wrote.

"The two-time second-team All-Pro cornerback would be in high demand on the trade market, potentially going for multiple second and third-round draft picks."

Alexander, 27, still has plenty of good football left in him if he can stay on the field, whether that's in Green Bay or elsewhere. He had a pair of interceptions in his seven games this season, including a 52-yard pick-six, and allowed just an 86.9 passer rating when targeted.

Hopefully, the Packers get to make the decision to keep or trade Alexander on their own terms. The star making it known publicly that he wants out could take away any leverage they have, but if they can avoid that, they can make a confident decision either way.
