Packers and Josh Jacobs get important update about his suspension

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is still sidelined and unable to take the field for his team. He's stuck on the commissioner's exempt list following a plea deal regarding his arrest in Wisconsin in the spring.

So, what's the status of Jacobs and his chance to return to the Packers? According to a report from Rob Demovsky of ESPN released on Thursday, the judge has "denied a request to seal records" in the case.

According to Demovsky, the judge denied the request to permanently seal evidence, so the evidence is out there. Also according to Demovsky, the judge has sent the matter over to the police, and any requests for information about it will be taken care of by the police.

News on the Josh Jacobs case emerges

Part of that evidence is surveillance footage that reportedly shows the incident.

"The league wants to review the video as part of its in-house determination regarding the discipline that will be imposed on Jacobs under the Personal Conduct Policy," Mike Florio of NBC Sports notes. "It now has a path to potentially securing the video. If the motion to permanently seal the evidence had been granted, that would have potentially been impossible."

For now, Jacobs is still on the commissioner's list. But, in a sense, this is one step closer to getting a resolution, because the sooner the NFL can watch this video, the sooner they'll make a decision on Jacobs' penalty.

As for games he's missed as the NFL reviews the matter, those could count toward any final suspension he gets. It's still unknown when the NFL will announce its final decision on the matter.
