McLaren star Oscar Piastri took to social media and issued a statement on the Bondi Beach shooting in Australia. The 24-year-old stood in support of the victims of the shooting, hailed the emergency services and condemned the actions of the shooters.

An attack on Bondi Beach in Sydney took place on December 14, 2025 where two armed personnel targeted the country's Jewish community at a Hanukkah event taking place in a park next to the beach. As per the reports, 15 people were killed.

As per the BBC, the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese detailed the attack as “an act of antisemitism... [and] terrorism on our shores”. The two shooters were reportedly a father-son duo identified as Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram.

The father (Sajid) was a licensed firearms holder with six firearms registered to his name, all of which were reportedly used during the Bondi Beach shooting. Sajid Akram was shot dead by the police, whereas his son is currently admitted and is in critical condition.

Australian F1 driver Oscar Piastri took to Instagram and uploaded a story as he issued a statement on the Bondi Beach shooting.

“Saddened by the tragedy at Bondi Beach. Thoughts and prayers with the loved ones of those who lost their lives. Incredible courage from emergency services and civilians,” read Piastri's story.

The McLaren driver was born and brought up in Melbourne, Australia. Oscar Piastri started karting in the land down under before moving to the European karting championship and then joining the junior Formula categories in 2016-17.

The Bondi Beach attack was the biggest mass shooting in Australia since the 1996 Port Arthur massacre, where 35 people were killed.

Zak Brown takes a sly shot at Oscar Piastri at the McLaren Christmas party

Oscar Piastri signed with McLaren ahead of the 2023 season as Daniel Ricciardo parted ways with the team. However, it wasn't without drama as Alpine announced Piastri as Fernando Alonso's replacement without actually signing a contract with the Australian. The same led to Piastri putting out a tweet suggesting there wasn't any contract in place and eventually signing with McLaren.

At the 2025 McLaren Christmas party, which took place at the McLaren Technology Centre, Zak Brown addressed the team members whilst Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were on the stage with him. The Christmas party doubled up as a celebration for the F1 success. While giving the speech, Zak Brown took a sly shot at Piastri as he said,

“We took big risks with both of you. And don't pretend you had better options, you had f**king Alpine.”

Fans took to the social media platform X and slammed the McLaren CEO for his statement.
