Orlando Magic cut ties with 2 veteran guards after Desmond Bane trade

The Orlando Magic made a huge move on Sunday to trade for Desmond Bane to complete a Big Three with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

But to make the deal line up right, the Magic had to decline a couple of team options on other contracts.

The Orlando Sentinel's Jason Beede reported Monday night that Orlando has declined the option for both Gary Harris and Cory Joseph.

That doesn't preclude the Magic from re-signing them, but it means that they're currently on track to become free agents at the end of the month.

Harris is a former first-round pick, but now 30 years old, he averaged just 3.0 points per game in his fifth season in Orlando.

Joseph, now 33, was in his first season in Orlando and played just 12.2 minutes per night across 50 games.

Both guys are solid veteran presences, but they also aren't crucial to Orlando's future.

It'd probably make sense for the Magic to bring at least one back just for continuity's sake, but they wouldn't be huge losses, either.

Orlando probably needs to invest in another big guy and potentially a younger backup point guard than Joseph. But we'll see how the Magic decide to proceed from here after setting the top of their roster up for some serious hype.
