Orioles trade 12.79 ERA righty to Dodgers for 20-year-old pitching prospect

The Baltimore Orioles have been making a ton of roster moves in the last year as they look to bounce back from a rough 2025 season.

And the start of the regular season hasn't slowed them down at all, either, as the Orioles have been making moves in the form of trades and signings.

Most recently, the Orioles announced a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers that sent a 27-year-old right-handed pitcher with a 12.79 ERA to L.A. for a 20-year-old prospect.

"We have made the following trade: Orioles receiver: RHP Axel Perez. Dodgers receive: RHP Chayce McDermott," The Orioles announced.

The Orioles are sending Chayce McDermott, the 27-year-old right-hander who has a 12.79 ERA in his five Major League outings with the Orioles during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

This year in the minors, he had a 6.75 ERA for the Orioles at Triple-A before this trade. He will join the Dodgers' minor league team while giving the Orioles a fascinating pitching prospect.

Axel Perez is only 20 years old and signed with the Dodgers out of the Dominican Republic back in 2024. He's only pitched in one season of his professional career.

Last season, in 10 games and nine starts, Perez posted a 5.48 ERA across 23 innings pitched with 32 strikeouts and a .226 batting average allowed.

The Orioles are getting seven years younger with this trade exchange for right-handed pitchers in the minor leagues. Perez is a player to keep in mind down the road, as the Orioles are taking a flier on Perez at the cost of a 27-year-old righty pitcher.
