Shedeur Sanders has yet to make his debut for the Cleveland Browns. The rookie quarterback is currently the team's QB2, and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III believes that it'll take a head coach change for Sanders to get an opportunity in Cleveland.

RG III took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a video about the situation with the Browns. The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner wrote in the caption,

"The only way Shedeur Sanders EVER gets a chance to be the starter in Cleveland is if Kevin Stefanski gets fired."

The Cleveland Browns are currently 2-6 following the first eight weeks of the 2025 season. Kevin Stefanski started the season using Joe Flacco as the starting quarterback, but he opted to switch to Dillon Gabriel after four games.

Gabriel has since amassed a stat line of 702 passing yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions in his four starts. The Browns haven't shown significant improvement since the quarterback change, and fans are now demanding that Shedeur Sanders get a chance.

Shedeur Sanders missed Week 8 with a back injury

Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders was absent from the Browns' bench in Week 8 due to a back injury. The Colorado Buffaloes product was added to the injury report on Saturday and listed as questionable vs. the New England Patriots. According to ESPN, he went through a 15-minute pregame workout that included light jogging and a passing workout.

Sanders was ultimately listed as inactive for the game, and Bailey Zappe was elevated from the practice squad to back up Dillon Gabriel. It was Sanders' first mishap since he snagged the QB2 spot following Joe Flacco's trade to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Browns ultimately lost the game 32-13. The New England Patriots continued their stellar form while the Browns picked up their sixth loss of the season. Gabriel finished the game with 156 passing yards, two TDs, and two interceptions.

Next up for Sanders and the Browns is a bye week. The team will use the opportunity to regroup ahead of a tasking end to the season. Their next game after Week 9 is a trip to MetLife Stadium to face off against the New York Jets.
