Ole Miss AD Keith Carter announces major update on Lane Kiffin’s future

Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said Friday that a formal announcement on Lane Kiffin’s future with the Rebels will come Saturday, Nov. 29 — one day after Ole Miss meets Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.

Carter confirmed he and Kiffin held “many pointed and positive conversations” throughout the week, including a meeting Friday with Chancellor Glenn Boyce. He stated the program’s immediate priority remains supporting a 10-1 team still in contention for a College Football Playoff berth.

The update arrives amid intense speculation surrounding Kiffin, who has been pursued by LSU and Florida as both programs search for their next head coach.

Members of Kiffin’s camp were reported to have visited Baton Rouge earlier in the week, and multiple outlets have indicated ongoing contact between the coach’s representatives and interested schools.

Carter’s statement effectively sets a one-week timeline for a resolution, allowing Kiffin to focus on the rivalry matchup while postponing any public decision until after the Egg Bowl.

Kiffin, in his sixth season in Oxford, has guided the Rebels to national relevance behind one of the country’s most explosive offenses. A win next week would put Ole Miss on firm standing for its first-ever playoff appearance.

For LSU and Florida, the delay extends uncertainty and complicates their hiring timelines, while Ole Miss players and recruits await clarity on the program’s long-term direction.

Carter said the program aims to ensure the team remains insulated from “outside noise” as it prepares for its biggest game in more than a decade.

The Egg Bowl between No. 6 Ole Miss and Mississippi State kicks off on ABC at Noon ET on Black Friday.
