Ohio State Buckeyes' Jeremiah Smith is the No. 1 'freak' in college football

There isn't a college football player in the country like Jeremiah Smith.

The Ohio State superstar wide receiver is the best player on the Buckeyes, the best player in the Big Ten, and probably the best player in the nation.

He also, according to The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, is the No. 1 'freak' based on his physical traits.

Feldman puts out his Freaks List annually, and it's an astounding assortment of athletes who can run and jump and lift in ways that are hard to fathom. Smith tops them all in the newest iteration after just one season in Columbus, before even turning 20.

Among the details shared about the 6-foot-3, 223-pound sophomore receiver:

  • 20 reps on the bench of 225 pounds, with Smith telling Feldman he could only hit five of those before he got to Ohio State
  • An 11-foot broad jump
  • A 38-inch vertical jump
  • A speed of 23.5 miles per hour via GPS measurement
  • A squat of 550 pounds

And even scarier for opponents, Smith improved his diet this offseason, too.

“I was eating fast food probably every day throughout the season. It was bad," Smith told Feldman.

Feldman added in his own words: "Now, with the help of a nutritionist, he’s got a meal plan. Smith’s staying away from red meat and eating a lot of salmon, rice and broccoli. The toughest thing for him to give up was Wendy’s, which he hasn’t had since right after the national championship."

In the Buckeyes' national championship season, the freshman Smith had 76 catches for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns.

If he could've left for the NFL after one season, he probably would've been the top WR selected.

He's got at least two more seasons on campus at OSU, though.

All indications are that they'll be freakishly incredible.
