Nuggets predicted to cut ties with $180 million dud after latest development

The Denver Nuggets were embarrassed in Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, a very disappointing situation for a team with a chance to win a championship.

However, it's important to take a step back and recognize who the Nuggets were. On paper, the Nuggets weren't nearly as good as Oklahoma City. It's a bit surprising they even took them to seven games in general.

Factor that in with the Nuggets firing Mike Malone and Calvin Booth right before the playoffs, and there was plenty of drama around this organization. However, when a team has Nikola Jokic, the expectation is for them to win.

That wasn't the case, and the Nuggets need to act on it now.

That's why the Denver Gazette suggested that the team has to move on from Michael Porter Jr, bashing his contract and him as a player, writing that he isn't as good as Alex Caruso because of what Caruso brings to a championship team.

“Caruso is the savvy player that Michael Porter Jr. never will be, no matter how much the Nuggets pay or coddle him.

“His salary of $35.86 million won’t make MPJ an All-Star, but does make him a serious contender for the most overpaid player in the entire NBA,” they wrote.

Cruso did an excellent job against Jokic in Game 7, and while some thought he was fouling him, he got away with it, and the Thunder were rewarded because of that.

Moving on from Porter likely won't be the easiest thing to do. Not only because of his below-average play at times, but the Missouri product is currently playing on a $179 million deal and still has two years remaining on his contract.
