The Denver Nuggets seem hopeful they can get a decent return for youngster Peyton Watson, which would be an ideal situation for them.
As long as the Nuggets can improve on both sides of the basketball this summer, I don't think it's the worst idea to suggest that moving on from Watson would be the right decision.
However, if the Nuggets can't figure out a sign-and-trade that makes sense for both parties for Watson, that could put others on the trade market. That even includes Jamal Murray, as there's been some strange chatter about the Nuggets potentially moving on from him, with one writer recently predicting as much again.
“Denver's championship honeymoon is officially over after enduring back-to-back operational failures in the postseason.
“Word out of the Rockies indicates that anyone not named Nikola Jokic is completely gettable via trade this offseason. If the front office decides to allocate long-term capital to retain restricted free agent Peyton Watson, Jamal Murray becomes the ultimate blue-chip chip to restock their dry asset cupboard or to address specific team needs,” Joe Cervenka wrote.
I really like Murray as a player, and I have my skepticism about whether trading him would make sense for Denver.
I don't think it's the worst idea for the Nuggets, but I also have my fair share of skepticism on whether they can get an actual return for him that would be better than what he currently is for them. That's something the Nuggets will have to figure out if he ever becomes available.
