One of college football's most storied rivalries returns Saturday as Notre Dame and Navy tee it up under the lights in South Bend.
The 98th meeting between the teams isn't just about nostalgia, though; the outcome could have College Football Playoff ramifications for each.
After reeling off six consecutive wins on the heels of a 0-2 start, the Irish are ranked 10th in the initial CFP release, putting them in the bracket for now. If Notre Dame can knock off Navy and win at Pitt next week, it should be in good shape with a finishing stretch against Syracuse and Stanford.
Navy is coming off its first loss of the season last week at North Texas and has a much more difficult path. After the visit to South Bend, the Midshipmen host USF and travel to Memphis, which currently holds the final spot in the CFP bracket as the highest-ranked Group of 5 conference leader. It's a tough stretch, but if the Mids can revert to winning form, they have a chance.
