"Probably not. My wife, since we've been married, she's like, ‘If you win the championship, you've got to drink.’ And even Noah [Gragson] and all my buddies are like, ‘If you win the championship, you’ve got to drink.: "I don't think I will. I'm not going to let that just change me," he concluded.Chase Briscoe will compete against his JGR teammate Denny Hamlin alongside Hendrick Motorsports rivals Kyle Larson and William Byron in the 312-lap Phoenix race.
Joe Gibbs reveals the reason behind hiring Chase Briscoe as the #19 Toyota driver's replacement for the 2025 Cup Series season
In September 2025, Joe Gibbs appeared in an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90 and opened up about replacing Martin Truex Jr. with Chase Briscoe. The 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion retired after wrapping the 2024 season and left his iconic #19 Toyota Camry XSE up for grabs.
Following that, JGR hired Briscoe as the new replacement for the Bass Pro Shops-sponsored ride. The #19 Toyota driver spent four years with Stewart-Haas Racing in the Cup Series, driving the #14 Ford for the team. He logged two wins and two pole positions while he drove for SHR.
Reflecting on Chase Briscoe's potential, Joe Gibbs found him to be the right pick for the team. Gibbs also pointed out that Briscoe checked all the boxes, and his interest in fishing and hunting also aligned with the sponsors. Gibbs stated:
"That's what I—Gosh, this is exciting, because we always talk about speed. If there's one thing the 19 has, it's speed. They've been, you know, I think six poles more top five, and our starting average for us is first. That car has showed speed. Now, if we could keep that going, then I think we got something that could make, make, make our time with Bass Pro, and our sport, something special for the 19 car going forward." [01:03]Chase Briscoe leads the Cup Series points table and lived up to the #19's potential this season. He logged three wins, 19 top tens, 15 top fives, and seven pole positions in 35 starts.
