The North Carolina Tar Heels have one regular season game left against rival Duke in what promises to be an exciting rematch. The Tar Heels won their home finale on Tuesday night against Clemson, marking a historic achievement for North Carolina.
“Perfection doesn't happen very often in sports. When it happens, it usually portends to positive things. Whatever happens to North Carolina over the remainder of the season is a mystery, but the Tar Heels can at least close the book on one aspect of their season: a perfect home slate after beating Clemson, 67-63, on Tuesday night at the Smith Center,” 247 Sports’ Andrew Jones wrote.
One key question is the return of Caleb Wilson from injury. Wilson suffered a fracture against Miami nearly a month ago.
“North Carolina star Caleb Wilson, a projected top-five pick in the 2026 NBA draft, is out with no timetable for return after he suffered a fractured left hand in the 75-66 loss at Miami on Tuesday, the school announced,” ESPN’s Myron Medcalf wrote.
The Tar Heels have had ups and downs without Wilson, but he is expected to be back in time for a tournament run. Head coach Hubert Davis provided more good news on Thursday, revealing that Wilson could make his return against Duke on Saturday.
“Hubert Davis tells me that "there's a chance" Caleb Wilson (hand) could play on Saturday in North Carolina's game at Duke depending on how the next two days of practice go,” CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein wrote.
This is huge news for the Tar Heels, as Wilson’s return not only boosts the team for the regular season finale but also for the ACC Tournament. Wilson has been instrumental in making North Carolina a stronger team in multiple ways.
After missing time with an injury, it will be intriguing to see how Wilson performs in his first game back. With him returning, the Tar Heels now have the weapon they need to make a deep run in March.
