Ouch: That thing that never happens, noncitizens voting in US elections, happened several hundred times in New Jersey these last few years — that we know of.
Gov. Mike Sherrill announced Tuesday that a glitch had registered roughly 6,600 noncitizens to vote between June 2023 and June 2024, and that nearly 400 of them had indeed voted.
That’s not quite the 35,000 Garden State noncitizen registered voters that President Donald Trump pointed to last week, but this group is the result of a single software error.
Yes: The state itself registered these folks as voters even though they’d checked the “not a citizen” box when applying for state ID or a driver’s license.
Which tells you that others easily could register illegally simply by not checking that box, and the state likely would never notice.
After all, New Jersey is one of those states that basically tries to register every warm body that walks into any government office: The emphasis is on “inclusion,” not “security.”
Don’t worry, Sherrill emphasized, “We have no evidence at this time that any elections were swayed” by these 400 illegal voters.
Yet a handful of ballots can determine a winner: Ballotpedia lists 660 US elections decided by 10 votes or less from 2018 to 2025, 13 of them in Jersey.

Nor can the gov say how many more noncitizens Jersey’s rolls might hold: Democrats refuse to believe it happens, so deep-blue states rarely “waste” resources checking.
Poor Mikie: She had to admit it had happened, just days after the president’s speech on election security and right as Democrats are blocking the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility act.
Yet she didn’t take the chance to call for any tightening of Garden State voter-registration rules; it was far more important to name the real villain: “Donald Trump has done more to undermine free elections in this country” than anyone else in her lifetime, she thundered.
No good Democrat ever lets any facts distract her from spouting the party line.
