Ryan Giggs revealed that he considers former Manchester United star Paul Scholes to be the best-ever teammate he had, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. The legendary midfielder enjoyed a hugely successful career at Old Trafford, playing alongside several of the world's best players across different eras.
Giggs spent 24 years as a first-team player at Manchester United, winning 13 league titles as the Red Devils ruled over English football for a long time. The Welshman told Premier League Productions back in 2020 that he considers Scholes to have been a better teammate than Cristiano Ronaldo.
"He’s [Scholes] probably the best United player that I played with. People always ask, 'Who’s the best player you’ve played with?' and probably [ability-wise] Cristiano for what he’s gone on to do with Real Madrid, Juventus and Portugal. But the best United player I played with was Scholesy. There was no other player like him. I felt on my day that I could do what most footballers could do but I could never do what Scholesy did. I think when Scholesy first got promoted he was pretty quiet and let his football do the talking but you always wanted to be on Scholesy’s team in possession and usually in games as well. As soon as Scholesy got the ball and turned, you made a run. He didn’t even need to look. He’d be playing the ball exactly where you’d want it", he said (via Manchester Evening News).Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes were teammates for 18 years at Old Trafford, winning the treble in 1999 among several other honours. Cristiano Ronaldo's time with the pair was much shorter, with the Portuguese great representing the Red Devils with them between 2003 and 2009.
Cristiano Ronaldo has enjoyed a hugely successful professional career in football, winning the Ballon d'Or five times as well as several other honours. Now 40 years old, the forward is on the books of Saudi giants Al-Nassr, having moved there from Manchester United in 2023.
Former Manchester United star rues missing out on Cristiano Ronaldo's teammate
Former Manchester United forward Nani has rued the club's failure to sign Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves in the transfer window. The Red Devils were strongly linked with the Portugal international in the summer of 2024 as he prepared to leave Benfica.
Nani told Metro that he believes that Neves would have been a great addition to the Red Devils if he had joined. He praised the youngster's quality, hailing him as an all-round talent of the highest quality.
"For sure, he would have been a great signing. He can run, he has amazing energy and all-round talent. He can score goals and can do anything on the field. He is a very clever footballer, who I think would fit in any team", he said.Joao Neves moved to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for £60 million after his impressive spell with Benfica, and quickly became a key player for club and country. He helped the French giants win the treble, including a first-ever UEFA Champions League title, and helped Portugal win the UEFA Nations League this year.
