Nick Saban downplays Texas, Washington, Illinois in College GameDay message on Ohio State

Nick Saban doesn’t believe the Ohio State Buckeyes have played anyone great during the 2025 season. Their resume includes the two-loss Texas Longhorns and Washington Huskies, as well as a three-loss Illinois Fighting Illini, all quality wins, but clearly not “great” according to the coaching G.O.A.T.

Still, Saban believes OSU played great against all those teams on their schedule during an undefeated season so far.

"Ohio State has been the most dominant, consistent team in the country so far this season," said Saban on College GameDay from Salt Lake City before the Buckeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions played on Big Noon Kickoff. "I think they cover.

“I think Ohio State hasn't played anybody that's great. But they have played great against everybody.”

Ohio State started the season ranked No. 2 and knocked off No. 1 Texas in Week 1 at the “Shoe.”Washington has only lost to OSU and the Michigan Wolverines heading into Week 10.

It’s a bit shocking to hear Saban say that about the two programs.

Particularly the Longhorns, whose head coach, Steve Sarkisian, was Saban’s offensive coordinator with the Alabama Crimson Tide during the program’s last national championship win in 2020/2021.

Rat poison? It may have motivated Sarkisian’s team. Texas took a 24-10 lead over the Vanderbilt Commodores at halftime on Saturday.

Either way, the G.O.A.T. has spoken, and he didn't speak much to Ohio State's opponents.
