The Seattle Seahawks' season was on the line yesterday against the San Francisco 49ers, and when they needed it most they came through with the plays they needed for an upset win. As a result, this team is back in the playoff race and even has a chance to take over first place in the crowded NFC West with a win this week.

First they will have to get past Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals, who will come to visit Lumen Field on Sunday afternoon. According to the opening odds at DraftKings Sportsbook, the Seahawks are favored by one point for this matchup.

Unlike their rivalry with the 49ers, Seattle has dominated this division series, winning five straight matchups against Arizona. Their most-recent meeting was the regular season finale for the 2023 season, coming in January. The Seahawks won 21-20 thanks to a clutch 34-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith to Tyler Lockett.

This time around probably will be more challenging, though. The Cardinals have won four games in a row coming into this week, including narrow wins over the Los Angeles Chargers and the Miami Dolphins and blowouts against the Chicago Bears and the New York Jets. Meanwhile, prior to their upset win in Santa Clara, Seattle had lost five of six.

That might as well have been an eternity ago in football years, though. The arrival of Ernest Jones has turned things around and Sunday's win should give this team new life and new possibilities.
